Bank PO vs Clerk: Which Exam Should You Target First?

IBPS and SBI recruit for two flagship roles every year: Probationary Officer (PO) and Clerk. Most aspirants prepare for both, but sequencing matters.

Selection stages

PO selection is Prelims + Mains + Interview. Clerk is Prelims + Mains, with no interview. The syllabus overlaps heavily, so a single foundation covers both — the difference is depth and the interview round.

Our recommendation

Build a common Prelims foundation (Quant, Reasoning, English), attempt every Clerk and PO notification in the cycle, and add interview + descriptive practice only for PO. That way one preparation window gives you multiple shots at selection.
